Known botanically as Tanacetum parthenium, feverfew is a small, cheerful, daisy-like plant with feathery, sharply scented leaves. Its name comes from the Latin febrifugia, "fever reducer," and herbalists across Europe have trusted it for centuries for fevers, aches, and the kind of headaches that take over the whole day. It's modest to look at and serious about its work.
In the apothecary, it's a steady, practical ally. In folk magic, it carries the same energy: it keeps accidents, illness, and bad luck from landing on you. Feverfew is the herb for people who plan ahead, pack the extra bag, and expect things to go right because they've made sure of it.
For the body:
Traditionally used to ease head tension and support comfort during recurring headaches
Used in European folk herbalism to support the body during fevers, which gave the plant its name
Valued in traditional blends for soothing general aches and inflammation
A bitter, aromatic tea, often taken in small amounts and blended with mint or lemon balm
For the spirit & metaphysical use:
Long known as a protective herb against accidents, illness, and sudden misfortune
Traditionally carried in sachets or kept in the car, bag, or home to guard safe travel
Used in folk tradition to protect against colds and contagion, hung or kept near the threshold
Associated with healing and recovery, used in rituals to support the mending of body and spirit
Linked with clear thinking and a calm head, a favorite for stress and overwhelm
A symbol of quiet readiness: protection that works because it showed up early
Don't wait for the emergency. Bring the feverfew, and let the day go the way you planned.

Avoid if you are allergic to ragweed, daisies, chrysanthemums, or other members of the Asteraceae family. It may interact with blood thinners and other medications, and should be stopped at least two weeks before scheduled surgery. Long-term users who stop suddenly may experience rebound headaches, joint stiffness, or anxiety. Chewing fresh leaves can cause mouth sores.
